John is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has been in the field of counseling for over 20 years. He has a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California and a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. Prior to graduate school, John was employed as a Mileu Activities Therapist working with severely emotionally disturbed children in San Jose, California. He also answered phones for a telephone crisis line and served as a group facilitator for training new volunteers.

John’s specialties are Christian counseling, marriage counseling, and pre-marital counseling. He has experience addressing issues causing anxiety and depression. He has dealt with the dynamics of infidelity, pornography, and emotional affairs. He has assisted dating and engaged couples to prepare for healthy, lifelong marriages. He has come alongside couples who are struggling and given them tools to improve communication, conflict resolution, and intimacy. And he has worked with families in the aftermath of divorce.

John’s desire is to create a grace-filled counseling environment where the truth is spoken in love, growth is encouraged, and people are heard, understood, and equipped to overcome the painful circumstances in their lives. His approach integrates the Bible, faith, and sound psychological understanding while focusing on the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of those present. Strengths are highlighted and weaknesses addressed. Past relationship patterns are explored as to how they impact the present and new ones developed that move in a more loving and respectful direction. Safety and trust are a top priority as John customizes his counseling to each individual, couple, or family he sees. John has been married for over 30 years and has two adult children.
